There are many different OTC categories that members will be interested in. We have 30 different categories in our OTC Benefit Programs that health plans can choose to offer to their members. We build custom programs for each plan to best serve their members. Here are some of our most popular categories:
- Dental Care
- Allergy and Flu
- Pain Relief
- Vitamins and Minerals
We call these our foundational products, and when creating a new program they are the products that we will build our program around. Every Supplemental OTC Benefit will include these products, because they are the more popular with members across all of our programs. These products make up 52% of all our products shipped in 2015.
Our next group of products are add-in products which are included in most programs. They include:
- Cough Drops
- Stomach and Laxative
- Ointments and Topicals
- Incontinence
- Hot and Cold Therapy
- Analgesics
- Eye Care
- Foot Care
- Cleaners
- First Aid – Gauze
- First Aid Kits
These products are about 38% of all the products that we shipped in 2015 and members will add these to their orders because they are products that they occasionally use but like to have on hand. We recommend that these categories be included in almost all programs unless there is a specific reason to eliminate one.
The last product group that we look at when building a program are specialty products, which are the following categories:
- Support
- Vitamins & Minerals – Special Supplements
- Skin Care
- Fiber Supplements
- Diagnostic Equipment – Thermometers
- First Aid – Bandages
- Ointments & Topicals – Hemorrhoid
- Skin Care – sunscreen
- Ear Care
- First Aid – tape
- Diagnostic – Blood Pressure
- Medication – Motion Sickness
- Vitamins & Minerals – Weight Loss
- Lactose
- UTI Products
These products can be included in programs on an as needed basis. Specific member demographics and location of the OTC Benefit Program are a few of the factors that can play into category choices. OTC Benefit Solutions is happy to work with you to determine which categories are the best ones to offer to your members.
